PRINCE2 and its global versatility

Some may be under the illusion that PRINCE2 is only valuable to those within the UK. Specifically, that the skills gained during the accreditation will only be applicable to the UK Information Technology market. You would be forgiven for thinking so with PRINCE’s history and origin. In the 1970’s, it began as PROMPTII Simpact Systems Ltd, created by the UK Government. In the 1980’s it underwent some changes was and renamed PRINCE. PRINCE2 came about in 1996 after the programme underwent further modifications. Another revision followed in 2009 and 2017 has brought us the latest update.

However, PRINCE2 is a versatile programme where the taught skills can be translated onto any project; whether it be organising a Bar Mitzvah, constructing and overseeing the building of a health clinic in Malawi, --READ MORE--to project management sectors in IT offices across the world.

PRINCE2 Exam Format Change

APMG, the accrediting board for PRINCE2® have announced a format change to both the PRINCE2 Practitioner and Practitioner Re-Registration exams.

These changes have come about as result of a candidate survey which highlighted some issues with the timings of each exam. If you would like to learn all you need to pass your PRINCE2 exams, try our PRINCE2 Training Courses.

The fully changed formats for each are as follows:

Practitioner ExamExam-in-progress-PRINCE2

  • 8 questions
  • 10 question items per question, each worth one mark, total 80 marks
  • 2.5 hours (150 minutes) duration, no additional reading time
  • 44+ marks to pass (55%)
  • Open book exam (official PRINCE2 manual only)
  • Trainer pass mark - 53 out of 80 (66%)

Practitioner Re-Registration Exam

  • 3 questions
  • 10 question items per question, each worth one mark, total 30 marks
  • 1 hour (60 minute) duration, no additional reading time
  • 17+ marks to pass (55%)
  • Open book exam (official PRINCE2 manual only)
  • Trainer pass mark - 20 out of 30 (66%)

These changes will take immediate effect from January 1st 2013 and will entirely replace the 'old' format of the exams.
